Well this is my second review.
This one will be about a headphone from the legendary AKG, The K450. It is the successor of the K416p which i loved quite mutch.
They have made.. something i cant describe.. its the best portable headset i have ever encountered in my whole life.
Just to say this, AKG.. You guys know how to make truly wonderfull headphones.
So lets start.
AKG K 450 The Review!
Package – What you get for 200 bucks!

You get:
- 1 Hardcase box with zipper for transport
- Jackplug Adapter
- Minijack Adapter
- 1.1m cable
- 0.8m cable
- One AKG K 450 with detachable cable.
Build
Well the build is accauly quit good. Its hard plastic surround the aluminium “headholder”. It got cussins on the underside so you get a nice feel on the top of your head when having it on. The Epic 3d axis folding mechanism, and my god you wont belive it!
The new “Cushins” are awsome, i just love having the headphones on!, And better yet, they won’t come of easy, you need to get beat by mike tyson on the face to accualy get them of your head. They are way better than the K 416p, waaayyy better.
And i remember back in the days when the audiocord on my 416 got ruined, my life got ruined then. And now AKG has finaly started to release them with detachable cord, so we can change it when it goes “haywire”.
Sound
Ahh yes, the sound. Well lets go into specs here.
- Frequency range (Hz-kHz) 11-29.5
- Input impedance (ohms) 32
- Sensitivity (dB SPL/V) 126
- Headphones weight without cable (g) 120
Im going to explain fast why these headphones are so darn good.
They go from the wooping 11hz to the nonhearable 29.5khz.
Have a nice impedance of 32 ohm, that means they dont demand mutch and can play very loud even on mp3 players and bad computer soundcards.
They got a wooping sensitivity of 126 fuckings desibels. That means they will play so loud you will destroy your ears! tenfold!.
But how does this affect the general sound?
The sound is quite correct, the bass i jawdropping because of the new cushins. The midrange is quite good, and the trible is just amazing, loads of details. Nerly beating my XTZ 99 2.2 v2006 speakers with the Doxa 70 amplifier.
WrapuP.
Positive:
- Quite Insanly good sound
- Lightdriven, runs even amazing on ip0d
- Detachable Cord
- Sticks solid too your head
- 3d-axis, you can use them for DJ’ing..?
- Refreshed design
- Quite nice accessories included
Negative
- You will get hearing damage
- Not so cheap
- Did i say Tinitus?
Conclusion:
This is the most impressive and goodsounding headphones ever concived for the consumer marked.

Great! Thanks! I tried contacting AKG and it was like pulling teeth to find them stateside. They’re not sold in the US yet. I’ll check out your suggestions. Thanks again.

Thanks for the review, since you mention the K416P, I have the 414P and love their sound, but they squeeze my head too tight, makes it hurt, how are the K450 in comparison ?
December 26, 2008 at 19:02 |
well i think they are quite comfertable. The new cussins are awsome

Hello, is the isolation enough to use the k450 in the metro/tram/train without hearing the noises around us?
January 2, 2009 at 13:43 |
Hello hello sorry for the delay!
They aren’t so goot at dampning noise. But they work abit, and with music on i guess you will survive the harsh environments of the metros

Ok thanks for the reply, I ordered my k450 on thomann.de

Hi there, I actually ordered the K27i/K416 and have been delivered the K430, which seem quite similar to these reviewed here. Anybody have any comments? I’m wondering if I should return these as I ordered the K416 for the light weight?
Thanks in advance, F.

Hi, I’m searching some new headphones and casually I found this nice review about the K450… I’d like to ask you something about them…
About the bads, is the tinnitus noticable/annoying? Then, I hope that the damage hearing is due to high volume just like all he other headphones… Last thing, do you know something about the bluetooth thing?? I havent’s understood how it could function…
Thanks
February 23, 2009 at 07:56 |
Yes damaged hearing is due to high volume
Bluetooth works in this way: You have to buy an ekstra thingi for the heat set. Coming out soon i think.

Hi,
Great review. Is this one wearable for people with big heads?
Mine is huge (helmet size XL, can’t wear caps/hats:))
February 23, 2009 at 07:57 |
Ey Thx!
Well… i can extend the headphones quite alot.. I got a mid head and i usualy use 2 clicks of 10.
February 23, 2009 at 09:11 |
Hello again,
Is there a battery in the headphone for the bluetooth stuff?
And is it any good for a big head? (sorry to ask again, but I’m in a hurry to buy one
)
February 23, 2009 at 11:28 |
Hello Jorn!
Well the bluetooth is an addon for the headset.
So to get bluetooth functionality you have to connect the headset to the bluetooth addon. Which you have to buy seperatly
And since its an addon i guess the Bluetooth runs on battery, so sry. No battery built in on the headphone
You can extend the fitting quite alot, as i said over. I got a mid head, and i use 2 clicks down, and you can extend it to max 10 clicks
February 23, 2009 at 11:59 |
thanks for the info! and I’m actually relieved that there are no batteries in the Headphone, sounds unneccesary.
if the K430 also an option or is this just the best?
February 23, 2009 at 12:21 |
I would say that the K450 is more bang for the buck than the K430
March 6, 2009 at 07:38 |
Lo again,
I bought one in Germany for about 70 euro’s, and I must say that I’m impressed. I also bought a Sony S639F to feed it some tunes. Oh big head people, don’t buy it if your head is bigger then 62cm, mine just barely fits.
Thanks again for the heads up!

I would Recommend the Cowon D2 MP3 player for the 450’s.
The Cowon is really the best sounding best i have ever heard
2×37mw ffs!
March 16, 2009 at 15:54 |
Hi handsome:
I also wanna get one for my MP3—iaudio 7, do U think is it best enough to show its performance? by the way, i m using sennheiser px100 currently! i m not that satisfied!
March 16, 2009 at 16:01 |
Ahh yes. The iAudio 7 would work really well with the K450
March 17, 2009 at 20:55 |
Alright this question has nothing to do with these specific headphones but I was just wondering if a typical mp3 player (sansa, ipod, etc.) could power a pair oh headphones with an OHMS of 55? The headphones im refering to are the AKG K 242HD’s.
April 7, 2009 at 09:16 |
Hello!
Well, they got a sensetivity of 104 atleast.. but i would recommend the Cowon D2 to power those headphones. They are quite large.
But i wouldn’t recommend the IPOD, they are quite limited when coming to output power
Hope this answers your question

Hi everyone!
After reading this review, I purchased a pair of these headphones in one of Moscow e-shops with express delivery. And yeah, the’re great.
Very versatile and comfortable fesign with 2 single-side replacible cords included. The 3D axis feature, hard case and extra adapters let you take them everywhere and use with almost any source of music.
The sound is great actually, even better that I expected for the price. it still has that “bassy” style like in k24/k414 or k181, but bass here is significantly better, with great resolution and depth. Highs are not that great, lacking some volume and definition, but anyway all the cymbals sound very naturally.
The volume is very high, I found myself using only 3/4 of iPod’s volume while in the metro, and extra bass the speakers provide is really useful in loudy environments like that.
And now I understand why Victor’s review was so emotional. Once you put the headphones on – you immediately fall in love with them.

Thx man, glad you liked it
