Benq E2200 HDA Review

Well this is my review of the Benq E2200 HD /A. Took quite some time to get ready to make this one.
But please, im not a rocket scientist in review, just gonna write plain and simple what i like and disslike about it and yes, i do got pictures.

Benq E2200 HDA

Both Screens

Quick Specs:

  • Panel: TN
  • Size: 21.5 inches
  • Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (Yeah 16:9 FFS!)
  • 5 ms / 2ms grey to grey
  • 300 cd/m2
  • Contrast: Static 1000 :1, Dynamic 10 000:1
  • Connections HDA: D-Sub/VGA
  • Connections HD: D-Sub/VGA, DVI-D, HDMI

As you can see the specs are quite heavy for this ultracheap screen, i payed 1500kr / 250 dollars each. But dont worry, they really live up to the hype, cheap screens that accualy work!.
Build
The plastic fantastic

Most of the screen is just plastic fantastic all the way. The foot itself is plastic, but has a handy “cableholder”. But i shit you not.

THis cheapass screen has a fucking VESA…

plastic fantastic

You also cant tilt it so mutch.

Max “Upwards”
up

And “Down”

So general build conclusion:
Its plastic, but VESA-tastic, if you dont like the foot get a new “screenholder?” :D

Screen Quality:
Forwarning, this screen is based on a TN Panel, dont think for a moment that this screen is like the 700buck Samsung one with S-PVA.

pixelmadness

I will just say this.. WOW.. I just love having high resolution, its totaly amazing! And the pixels are reaaally tiny also, nerly laptopish :|

As i only got the Canon G9 and bad lighting i cant really show how the colors are, but if some are interested here are some pics.

Red works right?….

Viewing Angle!

Well since this is a classic TN panel we are all scared of the viewing angel.

Desktop:

General Games:

Viewing angle conclusion: For you infront of the screen it will look wonderfull, people on the floor or sealing wont. People on the sides will watch the porn your running aokay.

LIGHTLEAKAGE!
img_1723
Well this screen has some lightleakage, its not mutch, you have to be a bitch to see it, and you wont care watching porn or gaming CS, WOW, Fallout.

Grand Finalè:

This screen beats the shit out of every other screen i have seen in the 22 “cheap range”

The Postive:

  • The Colors are amazing.
  • Black is pretty.. black?
  • 1920×1080p / 16:9 screen for Computer use.
  • It got VESA of you want another holder.
  • For a TN panel the viewingangle is quite good.
  • You get fucking 2×21.5 inches (3840×1080) for the price of 1x 24 inch (1920×1200)
  • And the screen looks good :)

The Negative:

  • The buildquality aint the best, its all plastic-fantastic
  • Got lightleakage like the rest of the cheap screens
  • Only VGA on the “HDA” edition
  • Dynamic Contrast is crap, so dont have it on.

FInal Word:

Well this screen is tha shit, and will be the current Bang for the Buck screen. Dirt cheap and delivering a quite good picture and amazing resolution for a 22 inch “cough 21.5 inch cough”.

If you want a new screen, 22 inch, i would recommend the this one, but the HD edition, because it got HDMI and DVI also. But jesus christ, this screen is awsome.. get it folks, you wont regret.

Sounds good! And really what I want. I don’t really want to be spending the big bucks on an S-PVA screen, I really don’t need the ‘perfection’.

So, I think I will probably be getting it around Christmas, or for Christmas?! Unless something else of the same size comes along between now and then, which is nicer or more appealing.

Sounds really great, and thanks for the review, glad your pleased with it!

hehe thx man, nice to know people appreciate the review :)

  3. Radu Says:

    Hi,

We have the HDA version in Romania for apx 205$. How does in compare to other LCD in the same apx price range (Samsung 2243NW, LG W2252TQ, etc)?

I could not see it in the store with the native resolution. You are right, the plastic is not very nice, but in this price range…

I plan on using it for Internet browsing, software development, and not so much on gaming and movies.

Do you recommend it for this kind of use?

    Thanks!

  4. viktorbasso Says:

    Hello Radu!

Well remember that the HDA only got VGA, while HD got DVi and HDMI also.

Both the Samsung and LG only got 1680×1050, and are 16:10. While the Benq got 1920×1080 and is 16:9. I’d say that with the larger resolution you get more productive with the Benq, since you can have more windows and information open at once.

Since you are aiming for general office use, and not gaming it will do perfect. And still if you want to crank up a CS game, it will do fine too, beacuse i cant see any ghosting effect while gaming and it works quite good on “non” native resolution.

    Hey Man,

nice review. The most informative I have found on the internet. Thanks for the effort and honesty over the most important specs.

    Greets!

  6. viktorbasso Says:

    Hey thx man!
Nice to know people are appreciating this :)

  7. Roland Says:

Well, I have this monitor since a few days and I find it quite perfect. Colours, picture, sharpness etc is very good. Itis connected to a 12″ laptop via HDMI and the picture is perfect for office use (open office 3, MS office 2007 and so on) and pictures. Browsing the internet is perfect. The work and connection with a computer and this monitor is really fun.

What is not yet working is a direct connection from a camcorder Sanyo Xacti 1010 via HDMI to the monitor. I mean direct connection, without PC. No picture. What is the problem?

    Greetings, Roland

  8. viktorbasso Says:

    Hello Roland!
Nice to know you also are enjoying the screen.

I can’t help you mutch with the Sanyo, but if the screen works on the laptop. There must be a problem with the settings for the HDMI output in the Camera.

  9. Jason Says:

Hi i was wondering does this screen perform well if i was to use for my xbox in HD?
I want to buy it for my pc and xbox just to save some room.

  10. Razvan Says:

I’ve just order it after reading ur review .
I will use the LCD moustly for games and web browsing.
    cant wait use it.

thankx for such a detailed review

  11. viktorbasso Says:

    Jason:
Well the screen should work quite well on the 360, but the moment you get more than 1 player on the screen i think it would get to small im afraid.

    Razvan:
For gaming the screen works quite good, you really get use to the extra width contra 16:10. And since its quite high resolution with high pixel per inch, you wont even need to AA or AF.
It feels abit cheap on the build quality, but heck, the picture is quite good :)

  12. Matt Says:

Dude, your review is fuckn mad. You should get paid to do this (if you don’t already). I’m buying one today!

Keep it up, you rock :)

    • viktorbasso Says:

      Thanks man!
      Really appriciate positive feedback :)

Don’t really know what will be next thou.. Maybe the MSI netbook with Mac OSX. But time will tell :P

  13. Alistair Says:

Hey Viktor you forgot to say the most important thing When this monitor runs games at 1600x? does it look the same as a regular 22 incher if so i see no reason why people will not buy this monitor and run old games at 1920 and newer ones at 1600x?

  14. Lucky Says:

    Hey thanks for the review,

I actually bought this screen a few months ago before ever reading this review (I only read your review today). I love the screen and I only bought mine for $AUD 250 which I think is hella cheap, I have the HD version which has the hdmi and dvi ports and I thought buying this would be better than buying a HD tv, and it is! Cause there are like HDTVs which are smaller than than this screen and doesn’t even have full 1080p and costs way more :P I especially like the fact that this screen comes with a hdmi input so I can therefore plug in an xbox 360 elite/ps3/blu ray dvd player/hd tuners in and make tv obsolete.

I also read on another specs page that this screen has hdmi 1.3 which the playstation 3 uses which to me makes this the cheapest screen solution if you want the full graphical effect for what the ps3 can do.

Reading your review has been a big ego stroke for me since having bought the screen on shoppers impulse ages ago.

Now I’m just deciding whether I should get a ps3 or xbox elite to use it with.

  15. viktorbasso Says:

I am sorry that i have not responded faster. But it was juletide and newyears :)

    Alistair:
I see you are head to the direction of Native vs Unnative/Scaled resolution.

Well i can say it works quite well. You will need to turn on AA and you will be abit quality degraiding because of the internal scaler. But it works quite well. If you are a core gamer, you would not buy the cheapest 22 inch screen would you? :)
But no, it does not look the same as a 22 incher, because its 16:9 not 16:10 :O

    Lucky:
Thx man, really appreciate positive feedback :)
Yeah the HDMI feature is quite impressive, but they launched the 24 incher also. And that one may fitt the gaming need better. Its totaly identical to the 22 incher, but its 24 inch instead :)

    Happy new years folks :D

  16. srik Says:

just wanted to know, if a monitor supports 1080p hdmi output, but not as a native resolution (i’m referring to the AOC 2230Fm, which i was considering to buy before seeing this) what will be the difference b/w this monitor and that?

i want a monitor to use for normal pc work and more importantly to play my ps3

    thanks

    • viktorbasso Says:

Well if the scaler is really good.. maybe :O

But the PS3 does not run games nativly on 1080p, but scales it internaly.

  17. Chintan Says:

Hi viktorbasso…..do you recommend this monitor for watching HD movies?

    • viktorbasso Says:

Well, if you got a fast computer that handles 1080p, and you want to watch it on a 1080p screen… Yes.

It all depends on “your” needs.
i dont watch HD movies on the benq, because its too small in size . (Using Projector with 100 inch screen here for that).

But yes, you can watch HD movies on it, but on my pictures, you can see lightleakage.. So its up to you :)

  18. srik Says:

i’m going to buy this today… mainly for playing on ps3 :D

my pc is so poor that i hope it supports a decent resolution on this monitor for basic desktop things :P

    thanks

  19. ionmes Says:

    Hello to everybody
    one question:
is it good this monitor for photography?

    Thanx

    • viktorbasso Says:

      Hello!
I would really recommend EIZO screens for photography. They are the leading ones on pure image quality :)

  20. ionmes Says:

thanx very much man, your answer came very quick!
    Other question:
any ideea for a low budget monitor for photography?

    Thanx

  21. viktorbasso Says:

    Hehe thx man :)

Well.. I would recommend the Eizo Flexiscan 22 or 24 inch. They are cheap and use IPS panel. Very good viewing angle :)

But there are other screens out there. The Eizo are over a year old. So i would think that any screen would really work aslong as it aint a TN panel :3
